Reply to post about marijuana

You may be right about the continued ban on pot being because of the difficulty for the govt. to process and regulate it, etc. Another major factor, as suggested by Susan, is that marijuana, unlike uppers like caffeine and other stimulants, is not compatable with the demands of our economic system--production and competition and little introspection concerning the social and/or ethical nature of one's work. Marijuana promotes attitudes and views that are totally antithetical to those requirements. It promotes feelings of well-being, relaxation and peaceful non-competetiveness-- the spirit of competetion is replaced with one of harmony and cooperation. In short, it just ain't capitalism/nationalism/ militarism-friendly. I must add, that I feel marijuana, besides its medical benefits, is a useful spiritual tool which opens one's mind to transcendent reality--this should lead one to practices like meditation, yoga, tai chi, etc.--the objective to reach that blissful state without the need for any substances.
