Thoughts on General Taguba's interview with Seymour Hersh

Since time immemorial, human beings have responded to violence and cruelty with violence and cruelty. Only our enlightened gods and saints can transcend that vicious cycle. One of our earliest teachings is two wrongs don't make a right--if we condone and conduct torture than we are no better than the people we oppose--and we are SUPPOSED to be better. As Nietzche put it, 'One must take care when fighting monsters, one does not become a monster oneself.'
